Description

Neutron sources, in particular californium 252 sources in the order of magnitude of milligrams can be produced by this method. They are preferably applied in the interstitial tumour therapy. The core piece consists of an aluminium mold homogeneously impregnated with an aqueous nitric californium 252 solution then heated to evaporate the solvent, and annealed to form californium 252 oxide. In particular, an aluminium oxide thread can be used which is surrounded by metal shells. The thread can be eliminated of californium 252 and its secondary products and used again. (DG)

Abstract (German)

Mit dem Verfahren koennen Neutronenquellen, insbesondere Californium-252-Quellen der Groessenordnung von Milligramm hergestellt werden. Sie dienen vorzugsweise dem Einsatz in der interstitiellen Geschwulsttherapie. Das Kernstueck besteht aus einem Aluminium-Formkoerper, der mit einer waessrigen, salpetersauren Californium-252-Loesung homogen getraenkt, anschliessend zur Verdampfung des Loesungsmittels erhitzt und zur Bildung von Californium-252-oxid geglueht wird. Insbesondere kann ein Aluminiumoxid-Faden verwendet werden, der mit metallischen Huelsen umgeben wird. Der Faden ist von Californium-252 und seinen Folgeprodukten eluierbar und wiederverwendbar.
