Description

The primary purpose of this paper is to describe how results from generic BWR reliability analyses are being used to support improvements to individual plant technical specifications. The cost-effective process described in this paper is currently being implemented for the BWR Owners' Group in Support of technical specification improvements to the Reactor Protection System (RPS) and to Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) actuation instrumentation. Safety and operational benefits resulting from these technical specification changes include reduced frequency of inadvertent scrams, reduced operator distraction, improved restoration of failed equipment, improved plant availability, and reduced maintenance/repair costs
