Out of plane capabilities in Hall C

Creators

Description

The Short Orbit Spectrometer (SOS) for Hall C is being engineered so that it may be lifted away from the scattering plane defined by the beam line and the HMS spectrometer. While the angle of lift is limited to 20 degree out of plane, the SOS will be the only focussing spectrometer at CEBAF capable of out of plane operation for several years. We present here preliminary information on the physical restrictions upon out of plane operations and the implied kinematics and scattering reactions thus allowed. The possibility of placing a proton recoil polarimeter at the focal plane of the SOS is also discussed
