Numerical study of the transport of a fast electron beam through a gas
Description
The system of steady-state equations describing the transport of a fast electron beam through argon is solved numerically. The distributions of secondary electrons, of plasma ions, and of the electric field between the emitter and collector of the fast electrons are derived. The collector potential is found as a function of the beam current density. At low beam currents, the collector may have positive potential
