Description

The color reaction of uranium (VI) with a newly synthesised reagent, 5-(4-dimethyl aminophenylazo)-8-hydroxyquinoline (DMPAQ), has been investigated. In a medium of Triton X-100 and pH 7.0∼9.0 buffer solution, U(VI) reacts with DMPAQ to form a stable complex with a molar ratio of 1:2. The complex exhibits a maximum absorption at 515 nm with an apparent molar absorptivity of 5.6 x 103 m2/mol. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0-2.0 μg/mL of U(VI). In the presence of CyDTA, most common ions do not interfere with the determination of U. The proposed method is applied to the determination of microamounts of uranium in rocks after the separation by TBP chromatography. The results are satisfactory
