Description
Exoelectron emission has been observed after the annealing of ceramic BeO above 1500C in high vacuum and subsequent admission of gases (He, air, Ar, N2, CH4, O2, CO2). The mechanism of this effect is attributed to the pyroelectric properties of BeO. During the heat pretreatment electrical fields are created on surface crystallites due to uncompensated polarization causing field ionization or gas discharge. (author)
