Critical scattering in a quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnet

Description

Critical dynamics of a layered insulating antiferromagnet Pr2CuO4 with weak interlayer coupling has been studied in the vicinity of the quantum critical point (HC∼3 T at T=0) by scattering of cold neutrons. The correlation length of the inter-plane copper spins fluctuations was observed to increase dramatically at HC, together with the peak and integral scattering intensity. The energy width of the critical scattering was found to be resolution limited indicating long (>10-10 s) correlation times
