Assessment of Bi-Cr-Pb ternary system

  • 1. Product Development Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Lead-Bismuth Eutectic (LBE) with many useful applications in high temperature reactors and ADS systems has a disadvantage of corrosive interaction with stainless-steel structural materials. Knowledge of phase equilibria of Bi-Cr-Pb is important for understanding Pb-Bi interaction with 'Cr', an important elemental component of steel. In the present work, Gibbs energy interaction parameters of Bi-Cr and Cr-Pb binary systems were optimized by the CALPHAD method to compute phase diagrams of these binaries. These assessed data were combined with previously optimized Bi-Pb system to compute a pseudo binary phase diagram of Cr-LBE. (author)
