Environmental issues in uranium mining and milling

Environmental issues related with uranium mining and milling include: large number of uranium production facilities shut down of operation over the last 15 years; increasingly stringent requirements for new facilities imposed by several countries; the restoration and reclamation measures of abandoned sites. Some of these challenges are briefly discussed, and reference is made to a comprehensive report to be published on these subjects by NEA and IAEA in 1999. (R.P.)
