Spinning laser targets
Description
Several techniques for spinning the ICF pellets up prior to or in the course of their compression are suggested, among them a technique that allows us to produce a localized shear flow deep inside the imploding shell, without loss of its structural integrity. Interference of the rotational shear flow with Rayleigh-Taylor instability is briefly discussed and possible consequences for the pellet performance are pointed out. The possibility of simulation of some astrophysical phenomena by imploding rotating targets is considered. (Author)
