Effects of flux creep on the SSC dipole magnets

  • 1. Kyushu Univ., Fukuoka (Japan). Faculty of Science

Description

A large change with time is observed in the sextupole fields of model Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) dipole magnets. This can be attributed to the flux creep decay of magnetisation currents caused by interfilamentary proximity coupling inside the superconducting wires. It is also shown that a theoretical expression for the time-change of the sextupole fields derived from the above mechanism can explain quantitatively the observed data for model SSC dipole magnets.
