Description

Within the frame of investigations performed by the French national agency for the management of radioactive wastes (ANDRA, Agence nationale pour la gestion des dechets radioactifs) in the Eastern part of the Parisian Basin in order to assess the feasibility of a radioactive waste storage in deep geological formations, the authors characterized the mobility of natural radionuclides in the target clayey formation and in its surrounding carbonated formations. The original aims were to determine the radioactive equilibrium or disequilibrium state 234U/238U in the deep formations where the experimental laboratory has been located, to characterize the processes responsible of the observed radioactive disequilibria, and then to determine the chronological implications regarding the chemical stability of these formations
