Recent observations of giant resonances in atoms and ions

  • 1. Physics Department, University College Cork, Cork (Ireland)
  • 2. School of Physical Sciences, Dublin City University, Dublin (Ireland)

Description

The first observations of giant resonances in the spectra of atoms and ions of the 4d transition row of the periodic table are reported. Although the results are of a very preliminary nature, trends in the appearance of the giant resonance along the row can be identified and in one case, that of Mo+, a detailed comparison of the observed spectrum with theory is achieved.
