Description
An approximate analytical solution of the equations of anisotropic collisional relaxation of atomic polarization moments was used as the basis for the study of the beat signal of circular polarization of light observed in experiments on excitation of atoms with monochromatic laser light in the magnetic field directed perpendicular to the laser ray. The dependence of the signal on the physical conditions, namely, the laser frequency, the density of a gas medium, the Larmor frequency and the rate of radiative decay of the excited state, was found. The optimum densities of a gas medium providing the maximum amplitudes of half-waves of the polarization beat signal in the experiment were calculated
