Effect of gamma radiation on garlic storage under natural conditions
- 1. Atomic Energy Commissiom, Damascus (Syrian Arab Republic)
Description
Garlic cloves were exposed to 30, 60, and 100 Gy of gamma radiation using Co60 as a sources, to study the effect of different doses on the sprout inhibition of garlic. All the doses applied were effective. No sprout occurred in any of the treatments subjected to natural storage conditions. The effect of irradiation was evident in limiting the weight decrease. It reached 12 - 19% in 1987 and 1988 experiments respectively after 320 days of storage. Irradiation had no effect on the garlic consumptive specifications compared to the control.
