Nuclear fuel elements for FBR type reactors

Description

Purpose: To protect the corrosion of inner surface of a cladding tube of nuclear fuel elements for FBR. Constitution: At least one of metal oxides is incorporated in sintered nuclear fuel pellets containing mixed U-Pu oxides. The atomic ratio of the metal oxides is less than 10% to the uranium and the plutonium metals. The fuel pellets are charged in lamination within a stainless steel cladding tube to form a fuel element. Since free oxygen occured on nuclear fission is bonded with the above metal oxides, the increase in oxygen potential in the fuel element is suppressed, which reduces grain boundary corrosion in the inner surface of the cladding tube during burning.
