Volumetric reference sources for calibration of whole-body counters

Description

Preliminarily results of works on creation of a phantom designed for application as a reference spectrometric gamma-source (RSG8) when solving the problem on calibration of whole-body counters (WBC) are considered. The sources were made on the basis of reference radionuclide solutions. 70 reference sources-modules with aqueous 137Cs solution with the values of 4x1o3 Bq activity coinciding within the limits of the calibration error of 5% (density 0.95) were made. The phantom assembed imitates the man's body containing a radionuclide uniformly distributed by volume, and it can be used instead of early used non-standartized ways of calibration. Experimental investigations on calibration of various WBC types based on the phantom developed have shown satisfactory divergence of the calibration results according to the volumetric reference sources and to the volunteers whone were introduced the measured value of 137Cs activity
