Structure of alloys and a diagram of phase equilibria of the Hf-Mo-C system

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev. Inst. Problem Materialovedeniya

Description

By the methods of metallographic and X-ray diffraction analysis the Hf-Mo-C ternary system alloys annealed at 1700 deg C have been studied. It is stated, that the field of the (Hf,Mo)Csub(1-x) solid solutions (delta-phase) is interrupted on the Mo-C side due to decomposition of cubic molybdenum carbide in the binary system. The solubility of molybdenum carbide in hafnium carbide is about 90 mol%. At 1700 deg C the delta-phase occurs in equilibrium with all the phases observed in the system. In the partial Mo-HfC-Hf system the phase on the base of HfMo2 cubic modification takes part in phase equilibria
