Description
Based on recent test results, we present the performance of a compact fast Ring Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detector in separating electrons, muons, pions, and kaons at 0.7<p<3.0 GeV/c in view of a possible application at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) operating in the nucleus-nucleus collision mode. The apparatus under discussion uses a solid (or liquid) radiator, and a low-gain multiwire proportional chamber (MWPC) with a two dimensional pad readout as a photoelectron detector. (orig.)
