Detection of low-level environmental exposure rates due to noble gas releases from the Muehleberg Nuclear Power Plant

  • 1. Federal Office of Energy Wuerenlingen (Switzerland). Nuclear Safety Div.

Description

An outline is given of the results of measurements made at the Muhleberg NPP near Bern, Switzerland, using high pressure ionization chambers (Reuter and Stokes RS-III) to determine continuous stack releases of radioactive noble gases. The difficulties of determining very small releases in view of meteorological variations are discussed. Time correlated records of gaseous effluent spikes at the stack, and dose rate spikes 500 m west from the NPP are presented for two separate dates. (U.K.)
