Isoelectronic trends of life times of resonance states formed by electron capture in O-like ions

In electron-ion (e/I) collisions, many resonance (R) states can be formed due to electron capture by positive ions. These R-states are of special interest because they are usully formed in both astrophysical and laboratory plasmas. The quantitative and qualitative information (e.g. lifetimes, fluorescence and auger yields) about R-states are still needed for plasma modeling and production of lasers by atomic collisions. In addition, lifetimes afford one of the more straightforward checks of the accuracy of calculated radial matrix elements in radiative decays. In the present work, the lifetime (τ) of resonance states which have the general form 1s 2s2 2p6, 1s2s22p5n ζ ; n=3,4 and 1s2s22p4na ζ anbζpb; na=3,4;nb=3-6; ζa=ζb=0,1 of O-like Al5=, Ar10= and V1'5+ are calculated. The nuclear-core charge (Zc) dependence of these life times is investigated. The auger- and photobranching ratios, χ(R) and ω(R), in the decay of R-states and their scaling properties with the effective charge (Zeff)as well as the principal (nb) and orbital (ζb) quantum numbers of the outer electrons in these states are discussed. It is found that, the life times of these R-states are very small in the range from 0.78 to 3.5 femtoseconds. In addition, the new data here, are consistent with the lifetimes for the neighboring isoelectronic sequences from He-like up to C-like ions which have been studied previously
