Analysis of data for CERN SPS-COLLIDER UA5 experiment

  • 1. Waseda Univ., Tokyo (Japan). Science and Engineering Research Lab.

Description

A part of the data on UA5 experiment received from CERN was analyzed. Those received were the data on the distribution of multiplicity related to 1516 examples of the charged secondary particles emitted forwards and backwards by p-p collision in the center-of-mass system and on the distribution of azimuth-pseudorapidity for 50 examples of great multiplicity events with multiplicity of 41 to 50. In SPS experiment, energy region was elevated to 140 TeV, and the properties which were not seen in the energy region of ISR in the past showed the change in the mechanism of secondary particle generation. The asymmetricity of generated secondary particles did not depend on the multiplicity, but had the spread about three times as much standard deviation as the Gaussian distribution as the limit of binomial distribution. In the analysis of large multiplicity events, the average exchange four-dimensional momentum was calculated as 3.7 +- 0.5 GeV/c in the center-of-mass system corrected for π deg. This value showed that considerably violent collision occurred in large multiplicity hadron generating mechanism. Inelasticity was 0.32 +- 0.05, calculated in a similar manner. In the large multiplicity events, by the present analysis using MST (minial spanning tree) method based on only the emission angle data, the statistically significant cluster structure was not able to be found. In this analysis, as described above, the cluster structure was not found, but a set of points in certain extent can be defined as a cluster. (Wakatsuki, Y.)
