Improvement of energy spectra in standing wave accelerators by means of injection delay

Description

Results of analytical and experimental investigations into the effect of injection pulse delay on energy spread of bunches in an electron accelerator with a standing wave of the REhLUS model are described. This model accelerators are designed for particle energy of up to 6 MeV and pulse beam current of up to 100 mA and represent structurally two high reliable accelerating sections on the basis of a biperiodical moderating system supplied from a magnetron through 3 db waveguide bridge. The obtained results show that using the injection delay in commerical linacs with a standing wave permits to considerably narrow the width of accelerated particle energy spectrum to 2% which enables to significantly improve their operating characteristics
