Inferences for risk assessment resulting from the analysis of core melt accidents

Description
The analysis of incidents of breakdown based on best-estimate calculations leads to a clear reduction in the frequency of the occurrence of core meltdowns. The fission product retention by the safety vessels is of crucial importance. There are still unsolved problems with regard to the H2 complex and high pressure. Sample calculations with regard to release via leakages in the safety vessel (steam explosion) show that a retention of fission products in the annulus and other parts of the plant contribute to a limitation in accident consequences. These are provisional results arising from phase B of the German Risk Analysis Study. (DG)

Die Stoerfallanalyse auf der Basis von Best-Estimate-Rechnungen fuehren zu einer deutlichen Herabsetzung der Eintrittshaeufigkeit fuer Kernschmelzen. Der Spaltproduktrueckhaltung durch den Sicherheitsbehaelter kommt eine entscheidende Bedeutung zu. Offene Probleme betreffen die H2-Problematik und hoher Druck. Beispielrechnungen zu Freisetzungen ueber Leckagen des Sicherheitsbehaelters (Dampfexplosion) zeigen, dass eine Rueckhaltung von Spaltprodukten im Ringraum und anderen Anlagenteilen zur Schadensfolgenbegrenzung beitraegt. Dies sind vorlaeufige Ergebnisse zur Phase B der Deutschen Risikostudie. (DG)Additional details
