The decay of sup(78g)Rb and sup(78m)Rb to levels in 78Kr
- 1. McGill Univ., Montreal, Quebec (Canada). Foster Radiation Lab.
Description
An investigation of the beta decay of 78Rb to levels in 78Kr has been carried out, and a detailed level scheme is proposed. The half-lives of sup(78g)Rb and sup(78m)Rb have been measured to be 17.66 +- 0.08 m and 5.74 +- 0.05 m, respectively. It has been possible to deduce percentage feedings and log ft values separately for the ground state and isomeric decays. The spectroscopic studies favour a Jsup(π) = 0+ assignment for the 78Rb ground state, and 4- for the isomeric level. This implies that the sup(78g)Rb → 78Kr decay is isospin forbidden. (orig.)
