Remediation of the former uranium mine Ranstad
Description
More than twenty years of experiments, tests, and development of remediation techniques have resulted in the remediation of the former uranium mine Ranstad. Five years after sealing the mill tailings, contaminants in the water have been reduced to about one third of the concentrations that were present before the remediation. Therefore, the sealing layer works as planned to minimise infiltration of precipitation and diffusion of oxygen. However, the pollution levels in the former open-pit mine are still high compared to the background values
