Description
Beginning last August, the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 3, of The Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. commenced commercial operation, making this 1,100-MWe BWR plant the first to adopt the improved Mark-1 containment vessel. Toshiba was responsible for design and construction of the reactor and its related facilities, and in addition, coordinated the entire plant project which was built according to the Japanese improved plant design and incorporated many new design features. Based on previous experience with design, construction and operation of earlier plants, Toshiba was also able to adopt various other technological improvements. This paper briefly outlines the design, construction and startup test operation of the Hamaoka Unit No. 3. (author)
