Inorganic ion exchanger in radioactive waste management : adsorption of Sr(II) on hydrous thorium oxide studied by radiotracer technique

  • 1. Banaras Hindu Univ., Varanasi (India). Dept. of Chemistry

Description

The dependence of adsorption on contact time, Sr(II) concentration, temperature and solution pH is established for synthesised and well characterised hydrous thorium oxide (HTO) using radiotracer technique. The sorption equilibrium is achieved quickly in ca. 40 min and the steady state values of adsorption at various concentration agree well with 'Freudlich isotherm'. The temperature and pH of Sr(II) adsorption along with the radiation stability of adsorbent are discussed. (author). 8 refs
