Description

A novel technique of neutron lifetime measurement is described here. It is based on the use of a time projection chamber (TPC) which allows reconstruction in 3-dimensions of tracks from the neutron decay electrons. The detector was filled with 4He gas (880 mbar), in order to eliminate background from neutron capture reactions, and with CO2 (70 mbar) for quenching
