Biological effects of the combined chemical and radiation damage in rats
Description
Biological effects of pesticides combined with total external gamma-irradiation or exposure to 90Sr were studied in experiments on white rat-males. It was shown that within a wide range of doses appropriated to LD50 the combined effect on animal's damage was considered to be additive. Long-term whole body intake of chlorofos or lindan at the dosage 0,2-0,001/day equal to LD50 resulted in various injuries in certain organs or systems, apparently by functional character. The combination of chemical with gamma-irradiation at the dosage 25 cGy/week or exposure to 90Sr (37 kBq/day) slightly increase the effect but it did not achieve complete summation. Our data suggested that the regulation of such compounds as lindan or chlorofos combined with gamma-irradiation is clearly justified by a real situation. However more information of the delayed effect of the combined radiation and chemical damage is needed for the decisive answer. (author)
