Post-irradiation examination for performance assessment fast reactor fuels and structural materials
Creators
- 1. Metallurgy and Materials Group, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)
Description
Post irradiation examination (PIE) provides valuable information on the in-reactor behaviour of the fuel and structural materials and plays a key role in deciding the residence time of the fuel in the reactor and hence the achievable burnup. Detailed PIE has been carried out on fuel and structural material of India's Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) whose burnup has reached to about 165 GWd/t without any fuel pin failure. (author)
