The Witten index for the supermembrane

Description
The perturbative spectrum of the supermembrane in eleven-dimensional spacetime contains massless states as a consequence of the spacetime supersymmetry of the theory. We show, by defining a Witten index that has strictly positive value, that supersymmetry remains unbroken non-perturbatively. (author)
