Studies of tumor metabolism

  • 1. Argonne National Lab., Ill. (USA)

Description

57Co-bleomycin has biological properties which are suitable for clinical use as a tumour/scanning agent. The Moessbauer spectroscopic technique has been used to investigate the chemical bonding of 57Co-bleomycin in vitro compared with that observed for 57Co-bleomycin which had become localized in a tumour. The results indicated that the 57Co-bleomycin was injected as a mixture of Co(II) and Co(III) complexes. When the Co-bleomycin complex was metabolized by the tumour, it was localized as primarily a Co(III) species. Possible metabolic pathways are briefly discussed. (U.K.)
