Effect of gadolinium as an burnup absorber on the fuel cycles using thermal neutrons

  • 1. Department of Nuclear Physics and Technology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak Technical University, 81219 Bratislava (Slovakia)

Description

Carrier theme, addressed in this work is the use of an burnup absorber, particularly in gadolinium fuel assemblies intended for WWER 1000, WWER 440. Attention will be given to the structure of fuel in these cartridges, and its use in Mochovce NPP and Bohunice NPP. For complete and accurate understanding of the principle of the use of fuel known as Gd-1 and Gd-2 are in the work the basic physical and chemical characteristics of gadolinium. The importance of necessity to use an absorber in order to make the fuel cycle more effective it is pointed. A vision for the future will be presented. (authors)
