Development of plasma melting technology for treatment of low level radioactive waste. (Pt.2)

  • 1. Central Research Inst. of Electric Power Industry, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

Simulating low level radioactive wastes from nuclear power plants, non-contaminated combustible products have been pyrolyzed in the plasma furnace. The pyrolyzed gas compositions and influence of the furnace atmosphere on it have been investigated. (1) Pyrolyzed gases from the plasma furnace can be constant by controlling the infurnace temperature and air ratio to feeding materials even if the feeding rate of combustible wastes is increased. (2) NOx emissions level will be less than 20 ppm when air ratio is maintained at a level below stoichiometric conditions. (author)
