Effect of x-ray irradiation on transition metal ions in human blood proteins

  • 1. University of Electro-Communications, Chofu, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

In frozen human blood, the decrease of ESR signals of transition metal ions was observed for the absorbed dose from 2 to 8 krad by X-ray irradiation. This fact was interpreted as valence reduction of Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions in blood proteins such as ceruloplasmin and transferrin which were contained in serum and plasma, respectively. Radiation effect of transition metal ions in blood may be possibly detected by ESR. (author)
