Description

Highlights: • Sternum exhibits several variations that may mimic various pathologic conditions. • MDCT provides excellent identification of sternal variations and anomalies. • Sternal and xiphoidal foramina are adjacent to vital thoracic structures. • The most frequent variations are the bifid xiphoid process and xiphoidal foramina. • Sternal variations can be correlated with sex and age. The aim of this retrospective study was to present the frequency and MDCT appearances of sternal variations and anomalies, as well as to highlight their clinical significance.
