Fetal thyroid dose from intakes of radioiodine by the mother

Description

A model of iodine metabolism in the human fetus and mother is described. This model is used to calculate the dose to the fetal thyroid as a function of fetal age from intakes of radioiodine by the mother for radionuclides of interest in nuclear medicine and in the nuclear power industry. The dosimetry calculations include the age dependence of the absorbed energy and thyroid mass as well as the age dependence of the uptake and retention of iodine in the fetal thyroid. (author)
