Description
The nuclear and radiation safety assurance in the first phase of the Shelter Implementation Plan (SIP) has been analyzed. The following has been reviewed: radiation safety assurance; preparation of programs and plans for assuring the safety in Shelter transformation activities; nuclear safety assurance; fuel-containing materials removal strategy, and radioactive wastes management. Main open issues of the general nature which require urgent solution, their role in further SIP tasks, and problems of their solutions have been discovered
