Development of a handled radionuclide detection instrument

  • 1. College of Nuclear Technology and Automation Engineering, Chengdu University of Technology, Chengdu (China)

Description

A multi-purpose handhold radionuclide detection instrument has been developed, with an ARM7-based multi-channel analyzer, and optional detectors of CdTe or NaI(Tl) scintillator. Having a data base of common natural and artificial radioactive nuclides, it can realize in-situ field measurements and radionuclide detection. Testing results show that energy resolutions of CdTe detectors achieves 800 eV and 59.54 keV (241Am) for 5.9 keV and 0.662 keV (137Cs),respectively, which are good enough for detecting nuclides of medium-low-energy γ-rays, while the NaI(Tl) detector can be used to detect nuclides of high-energy γ-rays.
