Influence of La+3 substitution of structural and superconducting properties of YBa2Cu3Oy

Description
La-substituted YBa2xLaxCu3Oy superconductor with x=0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.40 have been prepared under identical conditions and the temperature dependence of electrical resistivity and ac susceptibility of samples are measured. For x ≤ 0.20, the orthorhombic structure is not significantly changed but for higher value of x (x > 0.20) continuous change to tetragonal symmetry is observed. Compounds with x≤0.20 have Tc in the 90-77K range and are orthorhombic while compounds with x > 0.40 have Tc≤46K and are tetragonal. The oxygen content and average Cu-valence of the samples (x = 0.0 - 0.40) were determined from the iodometric method. (author)
