Some safety date of bituminization process for radioactive wastes
- 1. Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corp., Tokyo (Japan)
Description
Bituminization process was developed for the evaporator concentrate and chemical precipitation sludge from a PNC fuel reprocessing plant. The safety aspects of the process itself and the resulting solid were studied experimentally with the evaporator concentrate containing sodium nitrate. The following matters are described: leachability of the bituminized mixture containing radioisotopes, burning of NaNO3-bitumen mixture, and radioactivity in the off-gas and distillate from a bench-scale plant including a thin-film evaporator.
