Upgrading fire protection in the CSFR [Czechoslovakian VVER-440]

  • 1. VUPEK, Bratislava (Czechoslovakia)

Description

A series of fires in nuclear plants worldwide, as well as fires in domestic nuclear and brown coal power plants, has prompted Czechoslovakia to verify and improve fire protection arrangements at its nuclear plants. Czechoslovak nuclear plants are characterized by having strong professional fire brigades with sufficient technical support. This has been confirmed by several IAEA Operational Safety Review Team (OSART) missions. Nevertheless, there is a programme of fire protection upgrades planned for the four reactors at Jaslovske Bohunice and the four at Dukovany. (author)
