Late radiation injuries of the intestines following irradiation of gynecological tumors

Description

Original causes, pathophysiology, types and dimensions of late radiation injuries following radiotherapy of gynecological late radiation injuries following radiotherapy of gynecological tumors as well as the prognosis of the injuries are described and discussed according to the published data. Between 1969 and 1979 19 patients had to be undergone an intestinal operation because they revealed radiogenic injuries 3 months to 23 years after radiotherapy of gynecological tumors. The radiation injuries of the intestines involved the colon in 9 cases, the small intestine in 77, and both the intestinal sections in 2 cases. The postsurgical mortality was 36.8%
