Small-angle electron excitation of optically allowed transitions: reliability of theory

  • 1. Clark Atlanta Univ., GA (United States). Dept. of Physics

Description

A recent theory of generalized oscillator strengths for forward electron scattering for optically allowed transitions has been used to investigate small-angle electron differential cross sections for optically allowed atomic transitions. The transitions He 11S-21P0 and Cu 42S-42P0 are used to demonstrate the unreliability of theoretical calculations at near zero scattering angles and the need for careful investigations. (author)
