Clear paths in Geneva

Description

The intersecting storage ring at CERN requires very stringent vacuum conditions. These requirements are analysed in the different machines encountered by a proton on its journey from production in an ion source and during acceleration up to the maximum energy of 28 GeV and then in the storage ring. The design philosophy in such extended systems is discussed. (U.K.)
