Description
China spallation neutron source CSNS is the biggest technological infrastructure in China so far. It mainly consists of accelerator, target, instruments and supporting facility. The target station is cooled by three independent water cooling system to remove the heat disposition and optimize neutron flux. One of the cooling loops uses heavy water, and the other two use light water. During beam-on operation, the cooling medium passes through intense neutron and proton fields directly, it will become significantly activated. Heavy and light water cooling loops have the similar design approach. Each of them can be divided into five sub-systems. They are water circulation system, water cleanup system, protection gas system, vacuum system and control and monitoring system. The paper reports the scheme design of CSNS target water cooling system. (authors)
