Pediatric Lisfranc fracture: A subdiagnosticated injury

The 'bunk bed' fracture, is the pediatric equivalent of adult Lisfranc fracture, a tarsal-metatarsal luxation fracture. Although these injuries affect children of all ages, about half of the cases occur in children younger than six years old. Patients with this type of injury typically limps and walks leaning on the outside part of the foot, presenting with mild swelling and bruising of the adjacent tissues. It is a common pediatric fracture which is often not remembered in children complaining of pain, after a history of falling from a height on the tiptoe. (author)
