Description

A relativistic average-atom (AA) model is employed to study the inelastic electron-ion scattering in an Au plasma. The collision strengths are calculated in the frame of relativistic theory using the Born approximation. Numerical calculations show that the plasma effects cannot be neglected, especially for transitions of outer shells. The dynamical plasma polarization effects are qualitatively considered by introduction of the longitudinal dielectric function ε(Q, ω). Comparisons show that the polarization effects can be very important for high-density plasma or for transitions with low excitation energy. (Author)
