Pulse shaping and forming controlled by a fast breaking element for a pulsed power system with inductive energy store

Especially recently, the development of pulsed power technology has been demanded in connection with the long term development of energy sources such as nuclear fusion and FBRs. Usually, the energy storing method using condensers has been employed, and it is efficient for the discharge time up to 100 s, but has a defect of small energy density. For the discharge time from 1 ms to 10 s by increasing stored energy to more than 10 MJ, inductive energy storing method is superior to others in view of the size and weight reduction of the equipment and the economy. The energy density of the inductive method is about 100 times as much as that of the condenser method, but it is a defect that the rising is slow. In this study, it was experimentally investigated that in the pulsed power system of inductive energy storing type composed of the simple circuit using a slow bank, by using the control circuit for forming fast rising current pulses as the base and combining the fast breaking element of wire explosion type with other circuit elements, the control of pulse reform and pulse formation is feasible for the pulsed power current having various waveforms.
